Fifteen Area Teenagers Named To New Improv Troupe

Bucyrus Little Theatre and the Bucyrus Little Theatre’s Teen Theatre Club has concluded auditions and named its roster for the organization’s first-ever Teen Improv Troupe. The troupe, sponsored by Oakstone Landscape, consists of fifteen area teenagers aged 13-18. The troupe includes Cynthia Carvel, Rayne Gear, Annabelle Harris, Mia Hoover, Sofia Kanellakis, Madison Lee, Aniela Mueller, Jack Murrell, Lalania Newcomer, Jayda Robison, Karla Sharp, Lilia Suarez, Mika Suarez, Michael Rarick, and Sage Whalen.

“This group consists of some incredibly talented teenagers,” said Dalton Edwards, coach and director of the troupe. “They are all passionate about the performing arts and committed to furthering their development in the area of improv, which is sure to make them even better actors on stage.”

Bucyrus Little Theatre’s Teen Improv Troupe will conduct itself similar to athletic organizations, which means the troupe are expected to participate in regular “practices” and will be given opportunities for members to showcase their skills. The troupe meets every Saturday for practice where they will hone skills through improv games that  encourage members to think quickly, work together to quickly structure a scene, and tap into various areas of creativity. After several months of practice, the troupe plans to host an Improv Night in late winter/early spring that will be open to the public. The Troupe will also be tapped to provide impromptu performances throughout the year.

According to Edwards, when taught and performed properly, improv can be one of the most entertaining performances for audiences of all ages.

Improv comedy is not a new phenomenon. Improv gained popularity in 1998 with the television show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” when performers such as Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady, and Drew Carey helped improv become a household name. In recent years, actors such as Steve Carell and Ryan Reynolds have used improv to enhance their performances.
